Heat treatment is used as an intermediate step to improve machinability, and cutability, or as the final step in a process that achieves a specified level of product properties.

HEAT TREATING OF METALS

The time interval during which the metal is heated is calculated based on the time spent on its heating to a certain temperature level, and the time spent on holding at specified temperatures. The time taken to heat can also vary depending on what type of oven is used, the dimensions of the product, and how they are stacked in the oven; processing time varies depending on how quickly the phase transformations occur.

In the process of heating, the metal surface interacts with the gaseous medium, which subsequently causes a reduction in the carbon content on the surface of the product, and scale is formed. A decrease in the amount of carbon is the reason that the surface of the product loses its strength and hardness.

• Vacuum furnace – nominal temperature in the working space 1100˚С, size of the working space (width x length x height) 400 x 400 x 400 mm.
